The Laoguanmiao site is located on the hillock of the Qutang Gorge and it was the first named Neolithic site in western part of the Three Gorges region. The formation of the site was closely related to the deluges in the Yangtze River valley some 4000 years before present and the site was established to avoid the damage from the floods.Interpretation of the sites as such has important meanings for understanding regional cultures and environmental changes in the Three Gorges region or even the Yangtze River valley,in pre-Qin periods.
