There were circular brandings on the Hun’s face in some stone portraits in the Han Dynasty, which was generally thought to be branded marks. These marks were not only found among the Huns in the northern China but also among the Iranian nationality. The Huns might have absorbed the tattooed traditions of the early nomadic Iranians, besides, a great number of Huns also came from the Iranian nomads in the Central Asia. In conclusion, the circular marks on the faces of the Huns in the stone portraits might not be the face brandings for punishment, tattooed by the Han people but a traditional custom of the Eurasian steppe people.
