摘要
吴汝纶是近代杰出的教育家,1902年被管学大臣张百熙力荐为京师大学堂总教习,参与重建京师大学堂。吴汝纶秉持"兼苞新旧、会通中西"的教育理念,力图将中、西学教育共同纳入新式教育制度框架内,但他提出的办学设想却未获采纳。为寻求可行的办学策略、制定合理的学堂章程以成功重建大学堂,吴汝纶以六十高龄赴日本考察学务,他探寻到实现学校中、西学教育并举的途径,增强了建设新式学校的信心。他还积极为大学堂收集资料、广置设备、引荐师资,并提出了诸多新的办学设想与建议。虽最终未能赴任履职,但其理念与行动为京师大学堂的重建和20世纪初中国教育的改革提供了思路,作出了贡献。
Wu Rulun, an outstanding modern educator, was recommend as dean of the Imperial University of Peking by Zhang Baixi to participate in the reestablishment in 1902. Wu upheld an educational idea of "combining old and new learnings, integrating Chinese with Western cultures" and strove to integrate all these knowledge into the modern educational system. As the suggestion was rejected, Wu visited Japan to observe educational system at the age of 60 in order to find a viable strategy and rational charter to reestablish the university. He found out a way to realize his educational idea and to build modern schools. And Wu also gathered lots of materials and equipment, selected teachers and staffs and brought new design and suggestion for the university. Although Wu had not taken office at last, his educational idea and activities contributed thoughts and references to the reestablishment and Chinese education reformation in the early twentieth century.
