This paper will concentrate on the period of two years and a half of Walter Gropius's sojourn as an emigre architect in London.Through a discussion of a specific project, the Impington College Village in Cambridgeshire, the paper will try to reveal the adaptation and development in Gropius'design, and his p ersistent dedication to education in the post-Dessau period. It attem pts to re-evaluate the transition, from 1934 to 1937,and argues that this period has been underestimated among the legend of the architect himself as well as the history of modem architecture in Britain.
