Objective: To explore the mechanism of Tibetan medicine Duoxuekang capsule in preventing and treating high altitude polycythemia(HAPC). Methods: According to the international diagnostic criteria of HAPC,14 patients with HAPC were enrolled. The patients were tested for blood routine, physical signs, nuclear magnetic resonance brain imaging, blood oxygen saturation and other related indicators before and after taking one course of Duoxuekang Capsule capsules. Results: After treatment, symptoms of purpura, dizziness, headache, asthma, palpitations, and hands and feet fever were relieved(P<0.01), blood oxygen saturation(SpO2) and heart rate(PR) were increased(P<0.01). The RBC, HGB and HCT was decreased(P<0.05), and the total effective rate was 92.9%. Conclusion: Tibetan medicine Duoxuekang capsule has a therapeutic effect on HAPC. It can treat HAPC patients by regulating blood routine(RBC, HGB, HCT), SpO2 and PR. The results of MRI brain imaging suggest that the prevention and treatment of HAPC by Duoxuekang capsule may be related to the duration of its administration.
