The snake belief in China and Vietnam has a long history. And in both countries, there remain a large number of snake legends and stories sharing similar characters and plot types, showing the same image of creation, blessings, punishment and so on, which proves that the beliefs of snake gods in the two countries are of the same origin and inheritance. However, there are some differences between them. In Chinese orthodox culture, the belief of snake gods has been gradually marginalized by the belief of dragon, and the image of snake has even been demonized. While in Vietnam, the belief of snake has always coexisted with the that of dragon, and snake still occupies the position of god. The homology of Chinese and Vietnamese snake beliefs reflects their cultural and ethnic homology, while the differences show the heterogeneous diversion of Vietnamese culture and Chinese orthodox culture, as well as the regional cultures between the North and the South.
