索尔·贝娄是继海明威、福克纳之后的又一位美国文学大师。他的作品《赫索格》直面人生困境,揭示现代人的迷惘,渗透着一种对人类生存状态异常关切的人文焦灼意识。这种人文焦灼主要表现在对人的精神流浪、人自身价值的寻找、人的苦难命运的叩问等层面上。
Saul Bellow was another American authority on literature after Hemingway and Faulkner. His work Herzog directly faces up to the predicament of human life, reveals the perplexity of modern man, and ferments a kind of humanistic anxiety that is greatly concerned about the situation of human existence. Such a kind of humanistic anxiety is chiefly revealed on several levels, such as the wandering of man's spirit, the seeking of man's own value, and the inquiry about the bitter fate of human beings.
