Objective To investigate the mental health status of patients with sudden deafness in one ear and analyze the influencing factors. Methods A total of 250 patients with sudden deafness in one ear (study group) who were diagnosed and treated in the hospital from January 2012 to January 20 1 8 and 35 healthy volunteers (control group) who were examined in the hospital during the same period were selected as study subjects. The Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL90) score was compared between the two groups. The incidence of mental disorders in 250 patients with sudden deafness was statistically analyzed. The proportional hazards regression model (Cox model) was used to analyze the influencing factors of mental health of patients with sudden deafness in one ear. Results The scores of different factors and total scores of SCL90 in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). In 25 0 patients with sudden deafness, there were 62 patients with mental disorders, and the incidence rate was 24.80%(62/250). For the patients with higher the education level, occupations associated with language and music, married and more serious deafness the SCL90 total scores were higher (P < 0.05). COX regression analysis indicated education level, occupation and deafness degree were the influencing factors of mental health status of patients with sudden deafness (P < 0.05). Conclusion The mental health status of patients with sudden deafness in one ear is poor. The mental health status of patients with sudden deafness is closely related to the education level, occupation and deafness degree.
