Objective To understand the prevalence and related situation of viral warts among officers and soldiers stationed in Beijing. Methods An anonymous questionnaire was conducted among 1,000 officers and soldiers stationed in different units in Beijing by cluster and random sampling. Results The total prevalence of viral warts was 10.4% in the troops stationed in Beijing, and from high to low, the prevalence of verruca vulgaris, verruca plana and molluscum contagiosum was 8.0%, 1.9% and 0.5% respectively. Among verruca vulgaris, plantar warts had the highest prevalence rate of 7.1%. The total recurrence rate of viral warts was 67.6%, and 87.1% of the recurrent warts were plantar warts. Pre-treatment and treatment stages of viral warts had different effects on the movement, exercise and physical training of the officers and soldiers. The officers and soldiers stationed in Beijing lacked knowledge about viral warts seriously, as well as relevant ways or sources to obtain the disease-related information. The only knowledge about the disease was mostly from friends or relatives, and the scientific nature and safety of which were uncertain. Conclusion The prevalence of viral warts is high in the troops stationed in Beijing, which seriously affects the daily life and training of the officers and soldiers. The lack of basic knowledge of viral warts hinders the early detection and treatment of the disease, and increases the risk of self-transmission and contact transmission, and resulting the non-combat damage of the troops stationed in Beijing.
