The word of“Kuaishou”first appeared in the Song Annals. The Great Chinese Dictionary interpreted it as“soldier who is good at shooting arrows”,investigating the evolution of the meaning of“Kuaishou”. When“shou”is a affix, the meaning of first appeared in documentary materials should be“soldier who is agile”,and in the Ming and Qing Dynasties it be extended to the fixed title of“labour who responsible for arrest in the Yamen”. In modern Chinese,it generally refers to a person who is quick in action and efficient in doing things. When“shou”as a substantive word, the word“Kuaishou”is lexicalized from the original phrase to express the meaning of“swift and agile in action”. This evolution is different from the meanings in The Great Chinese Dictionary. It is believed that the meanings in The Great Chinese Dictionary should be adjusted.
