Anti-corruption is a universal challenge, particularly for China with maintained momentum of rapid economic growth. The anti-corruption campaign in China causes wide concern at home and abroad. In this research, taking a corpus linguistic approach, based on the Appraisal theory,we intend to investigate the anti-corruption discourse and anti-corruption image of Chinese government constructed the news reports by examination of the high frequency thematic terms, the distribution of Attitude and Engagement resources used in the linguistic context of these thematic terms in the anti-corruption-related news reports from the mainstream newspapers of China Daily and People’s Daily. It is revealed that high frequency thematic terms include Party,China, corruption and anti-corruption,etc.,among all the appraisal resources, attitude resources are much more frequently used than engagement ones,Attitude resources are employed to show the harm and damage corruption causes to the society, and the attitude, determination and capability of Chinese government to fight against corruption;Engagement resources are adopted to show the domestic and international support for anti-corruption by citing voices from Chinese government and international community. We believe that the corpus-based discursive construction of China’s anti-corruption will contribute enormously to the international communication of the national image of China as a responsible power.
