论《夜林》中的城市书写

摘要 朱娜·巴恩斯(Djuna Barnes)的现代主义代表作《夜林》(Nightwood)以20世纪二三十年代的巴黎、维也纳及柏林等西方现代都市为背景,通过刻画晦暗怪诞的城市景观与迷茫堕落的都市人展现了现代都市废墟景象。本文拟借助城市书写理论,对作品中以马戏团、喜剧院为代表的都市异质空间以及都市漫游者的生存状态进行剖析,并指出小说中勾勒的城市景观并非空洞的故事容器,而是狂欢的都市符码,形成空间隐喻,与作品中精神荒芜焦虑的都市人融为一体,共同呈现了一个精神瘫痪的城市荒原,从而揭示巴恩斯通过城市书写传达的现代性批判以及对现代人生存困境的忧思。 Djuna Barnes’ representative modernist novel Nightwood,set in such western modern cities as Paris, Berlin and Vienna in1920s and 1930s, shows the scenery of decaying modern cities by depicting gloomy and uncanny urban landscape and perplexed and degrading city crowds. Based on the theory of city writing, this paper analyzes the heterogenetic urban space which is represented by the circus and theatre and the living condition of the urban flaneur in the novel. It points out that the urban landscape depicted in the novel is the carnival urban code and forms spatial metaphor, which, together with the spiritually barren urban crowds, reflects the urban wilderness. It further unveils Djuna Barnes’ criticism on modernity and care for modern people’s living predicament presented in the novel through city wring.
