摘要
关于英国英语和美国英语的未来发展趋势,长期以来众多纷纭,莫衷一是。具有代表性的观点有两个,一是随着美国英语使用的范围和影响日益扩大,英国英语与美国英语之间的差异将消失,两者会合二为一,二是美国英语将最终独立于英国英语,两者会分道扬镳。本文认为,英国英语和美国英语既不会合二为一,也不会分道扬镳,美国英语将居于更主导的地位,超乎英国英语和美国英语等所有区域变体的通用英语将进一步形成。
The viewpoints on the trend of British English and American English vary greatly.Among them,the two viewpoints are typical:One,the differences between British English and American English will disappear with the increasing use and influence of American English,and British English and American English will be amalgamated into one.Two,American English will eventually be independent from British English,and thus British English and American English will split into two languages.This paper holds that British English and American will be neither amalgamated into one nor split in two,that American English will play a more dominant role,and that Common English above all the regional varieties including British English and American English will be further developed.
