Objective To evaluate the effects of virtual human histology experiment teaching utilizing digital slides. Methods The undergraduates of Xinjiang Medical University class 2017 majoring in nursing participated in this study. In control group,a digital microscope based interactive teaching system was used.In the experimental group, digital microscope and digital slide were combined in the virtual human histology experiment teaching. The teaching effect was evaluated through questionnaires and lab tests. Results According to the survey results,94.7%(54/57)students in experimental group believed that digital slides were easy to observe. This approach also allowed more flexible learning styles and enriched the contents of course, therefore was beneficial for students to improve their learning efficiency and test performance. The results of final exam indicated that the experimental group(90.53±7.62)had higher scores than the control group(81.46±10.36).Conclusions Digital slide based virtual human histology experiment teaching system is as an innovative and useful supplement to the existing teaching methods. It shows the advantages in improving teaching quality and enriching teaching resources.
