Objective To compare the difference of relative telomere length in peripheral blood between patients with non-small cell lung cancer and normal people, and to observe the correlation between telomere length and clinical features of non-small cell lung cancer. Methods The telomere length in peripheral blood of normal people and nonsmall cell lung cancer group was measured by fluorescence real-time quantitative PCR and statistically compared. At the same time, the correlation between telomere length and clinical stage, tumor size, smoking history and age in lung cancer group was analyzed. Results Telomere length in lung cancer group was significantly shorter than that in normal group(P<0.05).Telomere length was negatively correlated with tumor size, age and smoking history. The larger the tumor, the shorter the telomere length. The older the age,the shorter the telomere length. The telomere length of smokers was shorter than that of nonsmokers, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Telomere length in the non-small cell lung cancer group is significantly shorter than that in the healthy control group, which is expected to become one of the biomarkers for early diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer.Telomere length is closely related to clinical stage, pathological type and malignancy degree of non-small cell lung cancer, and is expected to be a new tumor marker or drug treatment target.
