摘要
严复"三字经"中"雅"的提出,有其特定的历史原因:其所受教育的背景的影响,"尚古求经"的研究方法的影响,更主要的是"雅"的必要性所致:一是为了使其翻译对象,即外国哲学社会科学著作的"精理微言"正确地表达出来;二是为了让其译文被当时的话语权操控者所接受,从而接受其思想。从历史和辩证的角度看,"雅"是完全必要的,正确的。
As to why YAN Fu advanced the“Elegance”in his translation principle,there are some particular historical reasons:the influence of the background that he was educated and the influence of the research method of primitive.What’s more important is the necessity of the elegance:Firstly,he must give consideration to how to exactly express the“refined words”in the objects to translate,i.e.the Western works.Secondly,he must take into consideration to how to make his translations accepted by the manipulators of discourse power at that time,i.e.the upper class society intellectuals,literati and officials in feudal China easily accept his translation,thus accept his thoughts.Seeing from the perspective of history and dialectics,the elegance is necessary and correct.
