摘要
《在未知的中国》,是英籍传教士柏格理在西南凉山诺苏领地部落中游历观察和体验探险的记录。该著堪称清末民国时期西人书写近代西南图像的翘楚之作,又恰似一面西洋镜,系统映照出了凉山腹地近代诺苏族民众生相。究诘该西镜东像的生成机制,"被俯视的尴尬时代"和"遭书写的文化语境"构成了化生形象的外部环境;受此"历史场"和"文化场"影响,在关涉诺苏形象内在质性的书写策略和意义表达中,不仅藏掖着从"见证叙事"经"英雄叙事"到"启蒙叙事"三重并置模式,隐含着西方话语、国家政权和诺苏本土互为"他者"的三重文化语境或"语词关系",而且承载着撰述者"化中国的传教需求"。因此,《在未知的中国》构建的诺苏形象,在现实之镜表象下表达的是撰述者的欲望。
In Unknown China is a book about a record of the observations,adventures and experiences of a pioneer missionary,Samuel Pollard,during a prolonged sojourn amongst the wild and unknown Nosu tribe of western China,which is regarded as the masterpiece of the image of southwest of China from the view of western people during the period and the late of Qing dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China.It reflects the real life of Nosu people in Liangshan area.Because of the eastern image from the western mirror,the overlooked embarrassing period and writing cultural context construct the external environment.Additionally,with the influence of history and culture,the writing strategy and meaning expressing on the inner characteristics of Nosu people reflect three modes,that is,witness narrative,hero narrative and enlightenment narrative.The book contains three cultures of the western utterance,national power and local culture of Nosu people and also carries the narrator’s missionary needs.Therefore,the construction of Nosu image in the In Unknown China reflects the desire of narrator.
