摘要
美国 1 9世纪最重要的浪漫主义小说家纳撒尼尔·霍桑 (NathanialHawthornel )深受清教思想、超验哲学和神秘主义的影响 ,善用象征手法 ,作品的主题复杂多义 ,充满了浓郁的浪漫主义色彩。《红字》集中体现了他的创作思想和艺术特色。本文通过对红字A的象征意义的探讨 ,阐述了作品单纯情节之下多层次的复杂的主题思想。含蓄的风格 ,深刻的寓意构成了《红字》似真非真、似梦非梦的浪漫世界。
Nathanial Hawthornel (1804-1864), the most important American Romantic novelist in the 19th century, was much influenced by Puritanism, super-empiricism and mysticism and became a master in adopting the symbolic technique. His works contains multiple and complex themes impregnated with romanticism. His writing philosophy and artistic features are fully displayed in 'The Scarlet Letter'. This paper, by analyzing the symbolic senses of the scarlet letter A, exposes the multiple complex themes of 'The Scarlet Letter' under its simple plots. Implicitness and allegories lead us to a dreamy romantic world in this famous novel.
