Objective To explore the effect of health education of falls prevention by using reinforced teach-back method on relevant knowledge level and incidence rate of falls among long-term hospitalized patients in a certain psychiatric hospital. Methods Totally 48 patients from two rehabilitation wards were divided into the study group( n =24) and the control group( n =24). In the control group, primary nurses provided health education for patients weekly according to the original health education plan of falls prevention. In the study group, health education was carried out by using the reinforced teach-back method. The level of relevant knowledge and skills about falls and the incidence rate of falls between June 2017 and December 2017 were assessed and compared between two groups. Result There was 1 patient in the control group lost to follow-up due to change of illness condition. The score of relevant knowledge and skills assessment in study group were significantly higher than that in control group ( P 〈0.01). The incidence of falls in the study group was lower than that in the control group (0 vs. 8.70%).
