Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a type of severe illness that seriously endangers human health and life, and may be converted to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in some patients. Recently, Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) expert consensus formally named the disease course, from after 7 days of AKI to the onset of CKD for 90 days, as acute kidney disease (AKD). At present, AKD is regarded as a key point of intervention for promoting recovery and reducing persistent damage after AKI occurrence. In view of the newer concept of AKD, clinicians are not yet fully aware of it. Therefore, we invited well- known domestic nephrologists to introduce the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of AKD so as to enhance the awareness and management of AKD, improve the level of prevention and treatment of AKD, and open up new areas for clinical nephrology.
