Glucose balance in human body is regulated by glucagon GCGs secreted by islet α cells and insulin secreted by islet β cells. The development of diabetes is mainly due to insulin deficiency or IR, at the same time, the absolute or relatively excessive secretion of GCG plays an important role in it.Previous clinical studies mainly focus on islet β - cells, but relatively few on islet α - cells. In fact, the increase of fasting blood glucose (FBG) and 2 h postprandial blood glucose (PPG) in diabetic patients is closely related with their GCG.When the function of the islet alpha cells are abnormal, this the pathological and physiological processes will lead to a decline in the body s ability to respond to hypoglycemia, so it is closely related with the occurrence and development of diabetes. Therefore, the article reviews the research of the islet alpha cells in the field of diabetes and its treatment.
