＂Sister Carrie＂ presents the floating world of the commercialized society of American capitalism in the late 19 th and early 20 th century.By using characters and scenes as metaphor,Theodore Dreiser reveals the social reality of the American society,which is full of human desires,materialistic and lust,and expresses the author＇s condemnation and criticism of capitalist commodity economy and consumer culture.It is of profound practical significance to interpret the literary metaphorical function of the novel and understand the deep meaning of the metaphorical symbols.
