摘要
孟禄是美国著名的教育史学家、比较教育学家以及哥伦比亚大学师范学院教授,在他的倡议下建立了师范学院国际研究所。孟禄提倡"促进国际理解"的国际教育观,体现了他的教育观念以及对中国教育问题研究的态度。在美国,孟禄对中国留学生悉心指导,传播美国教育理论并指导学生深入了解美国教育实践,引导关注中国教育现实问题,为中国培养了一批著名的教育家。1913-1941年,他多次前往中国演讲、调研和考察,在教育思想、教育制度、教育实践等方面给予中国教育全方面的指导,对20世纪初中国教育的发展影响深远。
Paul Monroe, as a famous American scholar of history of education and comparative education, is a professor in the Teachers College at Columbia University. Because of his proposal, International Research Institute of Teachers College was established. Paul Monroe advocated the international education concept which can "promote international understanding". And this concept further influenced his view on education and his attitude towards the research on the problems in Chinese education. In the U.S., Paul Monroe devoted all his attention to instruct students, spread American education theory, guide students to understand American education practice, lead them to focus on the practical problems in Chinese education and cultivate a group of famous educators for China. From 1913 to 1941, Paul Monroe went China numerous times for speech, investigation and survey. He provided comprehensive guidance for Chinese education in the aspects like education thought, education system and education practice, which has a profound influence on the development of Chinese education in the early 20 th century.
