How Architectural Paint Analysis Techniques Have Contributed to The Qianlong Garden Conservation Project in The Palace Museum

摘要 本文介绍了建筑彩绘显微镜分析技术的主要方法和原理,并通过比对介绍了显微镜分析技术在美国弗农山庄和中国紫禁城乾隆花园保护项目中起到的作用,揭示了其在建筑彩绘分析中的无法替代的重要性。在乾隆花园的保护项目中,作者使用显微镜分析技术对外檐彩画和内檐装饰的制作工艺进行深入研究,为保护方案的制订提供了重要信息。此外,作者还就显微镜分析技术与中国学者进行了深入的交流,中国学者根据国内文物的实际情况将显微镜分析技术用于文物研究中,促进了显微镜分析技术在中国的应用与发展。 The World Monuments Fund team of U.S.-trained conservators and conservation scientists began a collaborative project with the Palace Museum colleagues in 2001 for the conservation and restoration of the 27 buildings in the Qianlong Garden complex of the Forbidden City. In 2005 the author joined the team to apply optical microscopy techniques to document and analyze the wide range of decorative finishes – gilding, painting, lacquer – as the first step in determining the most appropriate restoration treatments. These analysis techniques and conservation treatment approaches, including the use of solvent gels and emulsions for controlled cleaning, have been used in projects at the most important historic properties in The United States, and now are being effectively used by conservators at the Palace Museum for buildings throughout the site.
