摘要
当代高等教育的发展既有各国的特点和个性,又有一些共性的问题和共同的趋势。其中,在大学越来越多地承担科研重任、社会越来越倚重大学的大背景下,如何看待大学的核心使命,如何让学生投身学习、教授献身教学,以确保人才培养的品位与特色,既是西方发达国家昨天碰到的挑战,也是今日中国大学无法回避的难题。美国卡内基教学促进基金会前任主席欧内斯特·博耶的高等教育思想的核心,就是捍卫和守护作为大学教育之魂的人才培养,特别是本科教育。潘金林新著对博耶高等教育思想的解读之所以不落俗套、新见迭出,在于他不仅收集了相当全面的文献资料,而且在博耶中心及加州大学伯克利分校、斯坦福大学等进行了广泛调查和深度访谈,获得了不同于既有文本的鲜活素材,其中不乏思想的闪光和观点的碰撞。
The development of contemporary higher education bears both the characteristics of each country and the universal issues and common trends. While colleges and universities are undertaking more and more scientific research tasks, and the society is increasingly relying on colleges and universities, how to treat the core mission of the institutions of higher learning？ How to involve students in learning and professors in teaching so as to ensure the quality and characteristics of talent cultivation？ These are not only the challenges that developed countries encountered yesterday, but also the puzzles that Chinese universities and colleges cannot escape today. The core of the President of Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching--Ernest Boyer＇s higher education thoughts is to defend and guard the cultivation of talents, especially undergraduate education, which is the soul of college education. Pan Jinlin＇s interpretation of Boyer＇s thoughts on higher education in his new work is unconventional and full of new ideas, not only because he has collected a broad and comprehensive literature, but also he has conducted extensive surveys and interviews at the Boyer Center,UC Berkeley and Stanford University, obtaining live and vivid materials, many of which are full of light of thoughts and collision of wisdom.
