In recent years, Shuozhou, a city in northern Shanxi, has regarded the establishment of the Yanmenguan Ecological Animal Husbandry Area as its "priori ty of priorities" on its economic agenda. It has chalked up resounding victories in going organic, building brand, and evolving into an ever more experienced an imal breeder. The number of cattle, pigs and sheep has reached a record high, wi th dairy cows up 15.7% from last year. The amounts of dairy cows, milk productio n, dairy products per capita, exports of livestock produce, and per-head income deriving from animal husbandry are all ranked number one in the province. The ci ty’s pastureland makes up 27.5 percent of its land area, being the largest in Sh anxi.
