Objective To study the effect of early contact and early sucking in postpartum 1 h on breastfeeding rate. Methods A total of 1218 pregnant women were divided by stratified random method into observation group and control group, with 609 cases in each group. The observation group received early contact and early sucking in postpartum 1 h, and the control group received no early contact and early sucking. Comparison were made on breasffeeding status and occurrence of complications between two groups. Results The observation group had breasffeeding rate as 65.85%, while the control group had breastfeeding rate as 20.85%. The observation group had higher breastfeeding rate than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). The observation group had milk feeding rate as 26.44%, while the control group had milk feeding rate as 70.44%. The observation group had lower milk feeding rate than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). Both groups had no statistically significant difference in breast and milk feeding rate (P〉0.05). The observation group had lower incidence of neonatal complications as 13.46% than 49.26% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion Early contact and early sucking in postpartum 1 h can also have a positive impact on newborns and puerpera. It can significantly improve breasffeeding rate, reduce neonatal complications, and is beneficial to the healthy growth of newborns. It contains high clinical value.
