This essay studies literary works by three women writers. These works include The Records of Women's Gossipsby Lin Bai, poetry by Yu Xiuhua and three autobiographical articles by Fan Yusu. In these works, Chinese subaltern women stage as the subject of narrative. The literary works of these three women not only enable subaltern women to voice for themselves, but also demonstrate the spiritual world of the subaltern as well as the complexity of lower elasssubjectivity. The linguistic and stylistic concept "deviation" is adopted in this essay to aid a comparative reading of these women' s works. In the meantime, the essay also analyses how contemporary rural women, being the subject of narrative, represent societal changes of rural China and urban-rural discrepancy, and also, how subaltern women are being re-examined. Echoing the negation of "can the subaltern speak" by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, the essay aims to prove that contemporary Chinese subaltern women can speak via the discursive tool of "deviation".
