Construction monitoring to the foundation pit of a shield tunnel is introduced. Monitoring results focus on analysis of the horizontal displacement and settlement of the top of retaining walls and piles, deep horizontal displacement of retaining piles, internal force of retaining walls and piles, axial force of concrete support structures, ground settlement and water level outside of the foundation pit. The results show that: (1) the construction monitoring basically shows the force situation and deformation of retaining structures and the surrounding environment of the foundation pit in the construction process, and guides the construction and ensures the safety of the foundation pit; (2) axial force of concrete support structures is influenced by temperature, creep and age of the concrete, which makes the motoring value bigger than the alarm value, so the alarm value should be set accurately and rationally; (3) the monitoring indexes are influenced by construction procedure, rainfalls, external loads, etc; (4) the supporting effect of diaphragm walls is better than other patterns; and (5) all the monitoring results should be analyzed synthetically combined with professional knowledge, situations in the field and engineering experiences before deciding whether to give the alarm, providing insurance in terms of data for the safe construction of the foundation pit.
