The glazed pottery incense burner unearthed from Liu Wuzhi' s Tomb, dating to the Western Han Dynasty, located in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province is inscribed with two characters of CangJie. It is the old- est object discovered so far that is connected with CangJie. Historical literature and archaeological materials have indicated that people' s worship for CangJie existedin the Western Han Dynasty. It is believed that this incense burner was used by Liu Wuzhi for the worship for CangJie. Liu Wuzhi was a family member of Liu Bi, King of the Wu,and moved to the Wu State with Liu Bi so iris very likely that the custom of CangJie worship was brought into the Wu by Liu Wuzhi from Heyang State. According to its style, however, the incense burner was a local product of the Wu. His worship for CangJie suggests that Liu Wuzhi was a government officerin charge of clerical work.
