Flexed burials in Han tombs were relatively common in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. These burials usually show certain characteristics in terms of their distribution, the way occupants were jointly buried, tomb structure, burial goods, status of occupants, etc. In terms of the position, flexed burials can generally be divided into two groups: extended position and leaning position. Each group also includes several sub-groups and represents its own temporary characteristics. Moreover, this article suggests that the general trend of positions changed from curled flexed to relatively flat flexed, and eventually became an extended position. This changing pattern indicates that the flexed burial practice was inherited from the Eastern Zhou period and the Qin state, with an integration of certain local traditions. The author also suggests the flexed burial practice was gradually abandoned from the Late Western Hart to the Early Eastern Han period.
