Coupled Human and Natural Systems( CHANS) is an interdisciplinary research program, which plays an important role in the sustainability of both human society and the natural environment. Natural disasters( e. g.earthquakes) are among the important factors that influence the dynamics of CHANS. The research on the effects of human and natural disturbance on rare wildlife( e. g.,giant panda) can provide a theoretical basis for key species' protection and management. This paper provides a general overview of the disturbance types of human activities on the pandas and their habitats, the effect of management policies on panda protection, the influence of the earthquake on the panda and the surrounding communities. It is proposed that the dynamics of CHANS after human and natural disturbances should be paid more attention to in the future studies. The interaction and feedback mechanism among policies, humans, and natural systems are revealed through the analysis of the influence of post-earthquake development and protection policy on the coupled relationship between humans and pandas. These promising studies will provide a scientific reference for making policies to promote both the protection of key species and the sustainable economic development of human communities after natural disasters.
