Liu Jiuyuan ( 1139 -1193) had few discourses on the Book of Changes and did not establish a systematic outlook on the Changes through commentary or sub-commentary on the book, either. From related materials preserved in the Liu Ji- uyuan ji (Collective Works and Sayings of Liu Jiuyuan), however, it can be seen that Liu extended his unique insights on some sentences and words of the Zhou Changes under his vision that "all the Six Confucian Classics are nothing but footnotes for my discourses." Despite of arbitrariness of his views, his teaching based on his heart-mind learning enriched and expanded connotations of the Changes, and initiated the approach to the Changes based on his heart-mind learning in the history of the Yi jing studies.
