The welding tests of WQ960 high strength steel were carried out by using the self developed metal powder flux cored wire. The effect of adding alloying elements Ni and Mo respectively in core composition on the mechanical properties of the welded joint was studied through tensile test, impact test, etc, and the mechanism of the effect was explained reasonably combined with metallograhpic observation. The results show that with the increase of Ni content in the weld, the tensile strength, impact energy at room temperature and -20℃ of the welded joint increase at first and then decrease, and the elongation decreases. This is due to that after the addition of Ni, the martensite appears in weld structure, and the contents of bainite and acicular ferrite increases. With the increase of Mo content in the weld, the tensile strength increases, and the elongation, impact energy at room temperature and -20℃ of the welded joint decrease. This is due to that Mo promotes bainite transformation and the bainite content in weld increases. The reasonable addition mounts of Ni and Mo are 0.81%-1.22% and 1.52% respectively.
