"节"作为音乐术语,除指节奏、节拍外,还指音乐器物。名称为"节"之器至少有三:其一为革之属鼓类的打击乐器,主要用于音乐中的"止",表示小顿;其二状如簸箕,用筋划之而发出乐音,主要用于节制歌舞;第三种"节",其形制是在一根杆状物的顶端系以旌旄之属,挥动之以起到节制舞步的作用。"节"发展到后来,又泛指所有具有表示止乐、止舞之停顿作用的节乐之器。
As a musical term, besides reference to rhythm and tempo, Jie （节） also refers to certain kinds of musical instruments. There are three instruments named Jie （节）. The first one is made of leather and used as percussion signaling stops in a piece of music. The second kind of Jie （节）, in the shape of a dustpan, produces musical sound when streaked across the surface and is used to accompany songs and dance. There is a third Jie（节）, in the shape of a shaft with flags at one end, is waved to direct dance movements. The term Jie（节） has arso evotved to refer to musical instruments which play the role of holding stop music and dances.
