Based on language data collected from Japanese films, and through an investigation of the language pragmatics of current undergraduates and working adults in Japan, this paper explores the linguistic discrepancies between male and female expression in film and in daily Japanese life, especially in the use of final particles. Through a quantitative survey, we conclude that terms like‘go rippa yo',‘abunai wane'now still belong to female speech, but are much more frequently used by seniors in real word communication. The paper also shows that terms like‘sugoi jann'and‘abunai jann', which express a kind of friendly charm, are most often adopted by speakers in their 20 s, both male and female. This means, in language practice, the discrepancies between male and female tend to be blurred. In addition, this study also verifies the findings related to the dynamic change of linguistic discrepancy between male and female speech in Japanese films.
