摘要
圣约翰大学是中国第一家新闻系的诞生地。但对于该校新闻教育的情况,现有文献还难窥全豹。本文主要立足上海档案馆收藏的相关档案,还原了圣约翰新闻教育前后25年的发展历程。该校新闻系创办虽早,但受限于圣约翰大学的由盛转衰,并未得到充分发展。它部分移植了密苏里新闻教育模式,再加上校内对英文教学的重视,便于学生与国际接轨;但对中国社会来说不够接地气,本土化程度较低。本文也将圣约翰与燕京的新闻教育进行了比较,后者主动从中美两国新闻界、教育界赢得支持,推动了燕京新闻系的快速崛起。
St. John's University has founded the first journalism department in China. However, the existing research on St. John's journalism education is far from enough. In this paper, based on the relevant files of Shanghai archives collection, the twenty-five-year history of St. John's journalism education has been restored. Although the university founded journalism department early, as the whole university declined from prosperity, its journalism education has not been fully developed. The journalism department has partially transplanted the 'Missouri journalism education model', plus the emphasis on English Teaching in the whole university, their students could conform to international standards easily. However, it tried little to adapt to Chinese Society, the degree of its localization is relatively low. We also compare it with the journalism education in Yenching University. Be active to win support from the press and educational circles in the China and the U.S., promoted the rapid rise of Yenching journalism department.
