The speaker's pause could relieve the interpreter's burden of concurrent listening and speaking and signify the end of a comparatively complete sense group.Meanwhile, the speaker's pause may also make the interpreter's delivery unnatural as the interpreter's pace is to a large extent paced by that of the speaker.Simultaneous interpreters should take advantage of the precious time granted by the speaker's pause while minimize the adverse effects of it.Through analysis of real interpreting case, practical strategies are explored to achieve that. The interpreter could try to adapt their segmentation primarily to the sender's rhythm of speech;s/he may choose to prolong the EVS(ear-voice span) or slow down the delivery of the previous segment to make the delivery more audience-friendly;another resort is that the interpreter could mitigate the adverse effects caused through filling long pauses with reasonable words based on appropriate segmentation and anticipation according to the context.
