"Miranda Saga" is targeted as an intiation stroy. The typical general plot mode distinguishes this genre from other literary forms.Predicted on the archetypal theories, Rui Yuping summarizes the plot mode of initiation stories as follows: innocence -disillusionment -epiphany, which has been successfully applied to some classic novels, such as Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and J.D.Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, etc. Porter's "Miranda Saga" follows this general mode thus demonstrating it as a good illustration ofinitiation stories. In the first place, it extends the application and content of initiation stories. In the second place, it provides a new point of view for the study of Porter.
