摘要
根据有关学者对中国学生在使用情态动词"should"的研究,特别是关于中国学生should的使用频率是美国学生的3.9倍的研究结果,尤其"应该"含义和居高临下的生硬语气,对《论语》的四个权威英译本中"should"各种意义的使用进行了统计分析,并找出了大量中国学生在自动选择"should"这个词的过程中所忽略的其他可以委婉地表达"应该"含义的多种方式。
Based on research findings on how the Chinese students use the modal verb 'should',and esp.that they use 'should' 3.9 times more frequently than the American students in writing a composition under the same title,this paper makes a statistical analysis on the use of various meanings of 'should' in the four prestigious English translations of Analects of Confucius,and discloses a large number of alternative expressions filtered by the Chinese students when they automatically use 'should' in argumentation.
