Zadie Smith' s novel The Autography Man vividly reflected the question of cultural identity in the modern society. Alex, the novel' s half-Chinese and half-Jewish hero, started his journey of his identity search out of the bewilderment and agony from the loss of such, and appeared to have reached his reconciliation and affirmation on a cultural and religious footing. The story of Alex was a literary narration of looking for identity and its establishment in a society. In the resurgence of nationalism worldwide, and a time when the ethnic identity becomes more explosive and urgent today,Zadie Smith's novel bears a particular significance.
