Objective To know about the status quo of drinking water disinfection in rural areas of Wanzhou in the hinterland of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region,so as to provide a scientific basis for the prevention of water-borne diseases. Methods Retrospective investigation method was used to collect and analyze the indicators of drinking water disinfection and microbial indicators among rural residents. Results During the period of 2013-2015,in Wanzhou of Three Gorges Reservoir Region 574 samples of rural residents' drinking water were monitored. The qualified rates of free chlorine, total bacteria, total coliform, thermotolerant coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli were 69.53%,78.45%,71.21%,70.20%,74.58%,respectively.Water disinfection quality tended to become better year by year(P〈0.01).There were significant differences in all indicators, except for colibacillus, between the dry season and the wet season. In addition, there was statistically significant difference between the residual chlorine in the peripheral water and the microbial items. Conclusions In recent years, the drinking water disinfection effect in the Wanzhou section of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region becomes generally better, but the qualified rates of the total coliform bacteria and thermotolerant coliform bacteria are relatively low,and there is a risk in the secondary pollution of the water.
