Dream narrative is a common narrative technique in Chinese American Literature. This paper explores the artistic forms and thematic content of dream narrative in three Chinese American novels: The Woman Warrior, DonaldDuk and Homebase, so as to reveal its aesthetic values. It is found that dream narrative is used as "sub-narrative" to signify ethnic experience and, by creating a dialogue between the dream text and the given historical discourse, works as a means to reveal the reality, uncover lost history and help in the construction of ethnic subjectivity.
