As a saint during American Transcendentalism and Renaissance in 19 th century,Ralph Waldo Emerson upholds the banner of intuition, emphasizing that individuals can penetrate into the essence of religion, nature and literature. Each individual can communicate with the Holy Spirit by intuition and achieve harmonious union with nature and God; individuals are holy and possess value independent from God and religion; individual intuition can perceive enlightenment of nature; literature( poetry in particular) is suffused with intuitive emotion and poets are supposed to be prophets of human beings. The essence of Emerson's intuition notion rests on the strength of individual soul, contributing to the final establishment of individualism in America. Emerson integrates intuition into American religion, philosophy and literature, thus practically leading to the birth of American Renaissance.
