摘要
国内学术界对英国华人文学较为陌生,更缺乏对该领域文学的系统研究和学理认识。本文追踪英国华人文学所特有的社会、历史、文化背景,对"英国华人文学"的学理命名进行考辨,界定与厘清其概念和内涵,同时思考英国华人文学与华裔美国文学在学名词序、内涵和译名上的差异及成因。文章指出,"英国华人文学"既客观反映目前英国华人文学的发展现实,又高度体现英国华人群体的认同意识,可以彰显其与华裔美国文学在不同发展阶段和主题特征上的鲜明差异。
Attention to British Chinese literature has been far from enough in China despite a few sporadic discussions over the relevant writing whereas a more systematic and theoretic exploration of it still remains undone. By scrutinizing its social,historical and cultural background, this paper examines how 'British Chinese literature 'should be defined to encompass its composition and connotations by referring to the term of Chinese American literature. Based on a comparative study of the formation of the two concepts as well as their English and Chinese terms,this paper argues that 'British Chinese literature 'is used to reflect both the history and status quo of British Chinese writing, not only signifying how the British Chinese identify themselves in Britain,but also showcasing how British Chinese literature dif-fers from Chinese American literature in terms of their phases of development as well as thematic concerns.
