Ancient Tea- Horse Trail is a network of long- distance transportation of goods for sale with manpower and animal power used among the people in ancient Southwest China and related regions. Its three characteristics, uniqueness of traffic, folk nature of activities, and associativity of tea, distinguish it sharply from the traffic and related cultures in the plains, hilly areas,or lake and sea areas. The value of Ancient Tea- Horse Trail as an academic concept lies in its choices of folk, local and ego perspectives and ideas, and thus poses a challenge to such perspectives and ideas as European centralism,Indian centralism, centralism of the Central Plains, and centralism of the Han culture. Such pluralistic perspectives and ideas coincide with the nature of Ancient Tea- Horse Trail as a traffic network.
