摘要
隋唐时代,中原社会与外部世界所进行的持续大规模的互动往来,急速地扩大了中原居民的文化和地理视野,也因而扩充了人们关于"我者"以外不同"他者"群体的知识。从国家行为体之间的关系交往看,唐代中国的对外传播,从某种意义上看,是一种向外部世界推广中国的外交规范并同时根据外部世界的反馈以认识和适应外部世界秩序的双向过程。在这一过程中,隋唐帝国的自我国家观念和"我——他"关系想象(如"中华"观念)在现实的对外关系中的得到了检验和校正的机会。一方面,隋唐帝国,基于外邦诸国以遣使朝贡、派遣留学、求请经书等的外交现实所传递的积极意义而逐渐强化了其作为文化综合体的"华夏"自我认同。另一方面,唐帝国又由于其所主导的朝贡、册封等制度在一定范围上的失灵,而逐渐打破其传统意义上的"中华帝国"的想象。前近代国家体系中的对外传播和关系交往,为隋唐帝国正视自我提供了以他者多元化反馈为內容的"三棱镜",这些对外交往中的不同实践都为建构"我——他"关系背景下中华帝国的主导式身份提供了意义来源,进而促使唐代的中国能够形成更为立体、全面的国家社会认同。
During the period of the Sui and Tang Dynasties in the Chinese history, the Chinese society had undergone a long-lasting and large-scaled intercultural communication with the outer world, which dramatically expanded Chinese people's cultural and geographical visions and enriched their knowledge about other nations. In the light of the interactive communications among nation- actors, the international communication of the Tang Empire was a bidirectional process in which the Tang Empire spreaded its mainstreaming diplomatic rules and norms to the outside world and meanwhile adapted its actions and concepts with the international environment. Further, the national identity of the Empire and its imagination of "me--him" relationship were tested and adapted. On one hand, the Empire strengthened its national identity as the cultural community of Huxia, based on the positive meaning constructed by its dominance in a series of diplomatic realities. On the other hand, the Empire's traditional self-identity as a Central Empire was gradually deconstructed by ineffectiveness of its dominant diplomatic norms and principles. In all, the international communication activities and the feedbacks from other cultural groups in the pre-modern times, which were the meaning sources constructing its social identity, provided the Tang Empire of China a triple prism to view itself more objectively.
