The anonymous in the Song ci poems was a phenomenon that merits comprehensive discussion. Of all the Song ci poems, over 200 are cross-referential to pomes of named poets of all dynasties, especially the Song Dynasty, which is evidence that since the Song Dynasty many people have believed these poems to be written not by the anonymous.Their reception since the Song has not been much affected by the absence of authorial identity. The frequency of cross reference is an indirect proof that the overall quality of the anonymous poems is not as poor as they were believed to be. With the awareness of literary immortality, the anonymous poets were also inspired by it and hence leaving the posterity with some good poems. At the same time, the anonymous Song ci,whose number tops the anonymous poems in all dynasties, can also serve to examine the unique literary elements of Song ci as a dynastic literature. In addition,a full understanding of the musicality of Song ci is helpful to understand the appearance of anonymous poems in large numbers under the predominant belief in literary immortality.
