约翰·巴思的简约主义创作美学

摘要 当代美国作家约翰·巴思是一位自我意识强烈的批评家,曾在各种场合倡导简约主义。他从简约主义角度演示了自己的美学观点,认为艺术效果可以通过极其简化的艺术途径而得以增强。对巴思来说,"少即是多"是一句归纳文学简约主义效果的名言。巴思认为创作中的简约就是用极少的文本来传达十分深奥与繁杂的涵义,因此,它是小说叙事与创作过程中的关键策略。本文从巴思撰写的批评文论与文学作品中探索其简约主义美学观点,将其视为巴思创作美学的部分内容。 The contemporary American writer John Barth is a conscious critic who has been advocating minimalism on various occasions. He has demonstrated from different perspectives his aesthetic viewon minimalism which holds the idea that artistic effect may be enhanced by a radical economy of artistic means. For Barth,'less is more'is a famous saying that recapitulates the effect ofliterary minimalism. Barth contends that to be minimal in writing is to use the simple literary text to connote a complex and profound thematic meaning. Hence,minimalism for Barth is an important strategy in the process of novel writing. In this paper,Barth's aesthetic viewon minimalism will be explored in detail from some of his critical essays and literary texts,regarding it as part of his creative aesthetics.
