摘要
曹雪芹使用了十二次冷笑来塑造林黛玉,不仅辅助定位其性格特征,同时也推动故事的发展。通过对比乔译、霍译和杨译三个版本对黛玉冷笑的不同英译方法,旨在考察不同的历史文化语境下的主流文化意识对翻译的生成起着不可磨灭的影响。林黛玉的冷笑英译的嬗变过程也给中国其他文学经典英译的传播起一个借鉴的作用。
Cao Xueqin made Lin Daiyu sneer 12 times,which not only helped to portray Lin Daiyu＇s characteristics, but also pushed forward the plot development. The purpose of this article,through comparing three different kinds of translation of these 12 cold smiles of Lin Daiyu made by H. Bencraft Joly,David Hawkes and Yang Hsien - yi,is to find out that the sense of mainstream culture in the different historical and cultural context has an indelible impact on the translation. The process of English translation of Lin Daiyu＇s 12 cold smiles in the history was a useful role when China other translated literary classics is going to spread in the western world.
